Walnut Beach

There is a 28-acre beach park at the intersection of the city of Ashtabula and the river. The beach offers access to a playground, a skate park, picnic tables, basketball courts, beach volleyball courts and to a wildlife preserve. The majority of the park is foot-friendly sand beach which is backed by beach vegetation and low dunes. There is a breakwater towards the east end of the beach which extends into Lake Erie. Fishing access is provided to the visitors in the region. The Harbor lighthouse is located near the end of the breakwater.

Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum

The Underground Railroad was an association of people who provided clothing, shelter, and food to the slaves who were trying to escape antebellum South. This museum has been listed on the register of historic places on the national registry. The County had over thirty Underground Railroad stations. Two-thirds of the sites can still be found today. Hubbard House is open to the public which features a large map showing all the sites that are present in the county. The museum houses civil war collection. Military artifacts are on display in the museum which would be fun to explore with children.

Lakeshore Park

This park is a well maintained, beautifully manicured park located on the shores of Lake Erie. This is an ideal park for nature lovers. This park offers 4 miles of hiking trail along the scenic river of Ashtabula County. You can spot rare flora and fauna along this trail. There are several spots along the trail for great steelhead fishing. The trail includes the Smolen-Gulf Bridge which is the longest covered bridge in the United States.
